Nong Thai
Day 1 · Review: Consonants, Vowels, Tone Marks & Thai Numerals

Let's review consonants, vowels, and tone marks with Nong Thai first!

Hi! Before we learn new things, let's review. Do you still remember all 44 Thai consonants, from ก ไก่ to ฮ นกฮูก? And the vowels — both short and long sounds you learned in Grade 1?

Try reading these words aloud: กา (crow), ปู (crab), มือ (hand), เสือ (tiger) — notice how each word combines a consonant with a vowel.

There are 4 tone-mark symbols: ไม้เอก ( ่ ), ไม้โท ( ้ ), ไม้ตรี ( ๊ ), and ไม้จัตวา ( ๋ ). They change how a word sounds — for example ป่า (forest) and ป้า (aunt) sound different because of their tone marks.

Thai numerals: ๐ ๑ ๒ ๓ ๔ ๕ ๖ ๗ ๘ ๙ match the Arabic digits 0-9. Try reading them aloud: ๑ (one), ๒ (two), ๓ (three).

Activity: Try writing your name in Thai, then circle the consonants you used. How many are there?
